Then & Now 2LP Vinyl Album
Sunstone Records releases its first double vinyl compilation album, “Then and Now” volume 1, featuring Figure 5, The Rudiments,The Imagineers and The Poachers. The album is a time capsule of the labels releases over the past 20 years (2004-2024), featuring unreleased tracks and a first time pressing on 180mg vinyl.
The label emerged during the vibrant music scene of Glasgow in the early 2000’s. The mod-ish power pop combo Figure 5 signed to the label in 2004 and released two singles ‘Topper’ and ‘Frustration’. They found early success with their first release when ‘No Fixed Abode’ was picked up by Saatchi and Saatchi Advertising for use in a commercial rebranding of Old Spice in the US and could be seen during the 2005 Super Bowl.
The label's eye for new talent continued when Sunstone released two melodic Pop/Folk EPs by The Rudiments, “Along The Bottom” and “Doctor Bone’s Fried Medicine”, gaining significant radio play from Mark Radcliffe on BBC Radio 2 with their stripped back folk sound.
The next band to catch the attention of Sunstone Records was The Imagineers. Their classic, melody driven, songwriting style was captured on their first Sunstone Records release in 2010, the double A-side ‘Mariana/Fairground’ helped them to reach a wider audience. They were then invited over to the US to play on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.
Sunstone Records would return after 10 years of inactivity with label founder Garry O’Pray hearing potential in new music by The Poachers. Their music grabbed his attention and he knew the songwriting deserved more recognition and The Poachers decided to release their new single in the Spring of 2023 - the caledonian, folk tinged tale of ‘Annabelle’ produced by Marco Rea at the Barne Studios, as their sound developed they recorded their new single ‘The Coast’ which they released in the spring of 2024.
